The jute plant is often referred to as “Golden Fibre” because it retains its natural luster even after processing. Jute is an easy plant to work with its anti-static quality. In terms of weather conditions, the banks of the Ganges River are the most ideal jute growing region. The jute used in commerce is obtained from two types of plants: Corchorus capsularis, known as white jute, which is lighter, and Corchorus olitorius, which is softer and stronger. These plants reach a height of 2-4 metres in one year. It naturally grows in India. It has started to be cultivated in China and Malaysia. The genus Colitorius was also recognised and cultivated in Mediterranean countries. Its arrival in America coincides with the 1870s. It is produced in the states of Texas and South Carolina in America. Jute products are easily soluble in soil and enrich the soil due to its organic structure. When burnt, the smoke is non-toxic and does not leave any residue. Almost all of the world jute production belongs to India and Pakistan.
In the body of jute, the fibre cells are in bundles. The production of jute fibre is done by rotting method. At the end of rotting, the fibre bundles are separated from the stem by hand peeling. The length of the fibres is 18-25 cm. The fibres are removed from the shells and dried by laying. The fibres, which are light yellow when first obtained, turn light brown as time passes. Subsequent processes are continued with machines in factories. As in cotton yarn production, it is cleaned by passing through combs, completely separated into fibres, and wound into bobbins as yarn. The thickness of the yarn varies according to the purpose. The importance of cotton in the textile industry is due to the fact that its fibres are very thin. It is also economical and economical because it is grown very cheaply. Its elasticity is low, its durability is lower than flax and hemp, most of the jute fibre is used in the production of rope, sack, rope, twine and cover fabrics. Carpets produced with fibres obtained from the jute plant and attracting attention with their recyclable environmentalist features are a rising value these days. Bangladesh, India and Pakistan are followed by Brazil and Taiwan in jute fibre production. Environmentally friendly jute is used not only in the textile industry but also in many other fields.
